Hi. I'm still struggling through learning this stupid iPhone, but thankfully am making enough progress to keep going, at least for now. One thing I was wondering about is finding a good voice recorder that's easy to use. There isn't one that comes built into the phone, is there so, if not, can someone please recommend a good, hopefully reasonably priced voice recording app that's easy enough for idiots like me to learn that will do the trick? Thank you for your time.
Under utilities you have voice memos on your phone. Investage it. If you've not altered your home screen find utilities open it and near the bottom you'll find some things. Voice memo is built in and works easy.
Hi, forereel. I found the voice memos app and tried making a recording. I was able to play it back on my first attempt, but haven't been able to play it back on subsequent attempts and can't find where to delete it because the only time I find a delete button it's dimmed. Can you help walk me through this if you have the time, please? It's really confusing. Thank you.
I'll have to play with it some. I don't use it on a regular bases, so off the top of my head have forgotten some things. I'll post soon if someone else doesn't.
Still playing with it myself. Couldn't ever get my recording to play after the first time, but I was able to delete it somehow. Ah, this learning something totally new is so frustrating. Thanks, though, for offering to help without ridicule. It's appreciated. Just got a stck of work to do, so I guess will have to put the phone aside for now. Haha!
I'll post, I've been busy some, so I've not set down to play. I thought by now someone else would have, but I'll do it tomorrow for sure.
Also, if you've got the manual, it will help lots.
Last, if you've not had your phone more then 90 days, call Apple, and they'll sit with you as you do it, or go in to the store.
I'll post.
Hi. Ok, here is as complete of an explanation as I can as to how to use the voice memos app.
1. Open the voice memos app.
2. when you first land on the home screen and you swipe with your finger to the right, the first thing you might here is, VU meter, image. This is a visual representation of how loud your microphone will be, VoiceOver won't read this very well but if you're a reasonable distance away you should be heard pretty well.
3. Swiping to the right again lands you on the record button. To start a voice memo, double tap this button and you'll hear a little dingding! sound to indicate that you're recording.
4. Now say your sage bit of wisdom, or if you need to make a serious voice memo go ahead and do that now and when you've finished, simply double tap in the exact same spot as you did when you first started your recording. Your focus will be on
the pause button. If you want to completely stop the recording, swipe once to the right and you'll land on the stop button. so do either thing and your recording will be saved.
5. Once your memo is saved you'll then land on the show recordings button. So go ahead and double tap that.
6. On this screen you have a speaker button, a done button just to the right of that, and if you swipe once more to the right, you'll find your voice memo. You can play it multiple times by double tapping on it, and VoiceOver will indicate to you that it's selected. This is a really important detail especially if you have multiple voice memos. but in this case we've only got one, and as I said, it's selected, and that's what we want it to be. So to delete it, swipe a few times over to the delete button, and double tap on that. You'll get a confirmation button that says delete voice memo. If you really want to delete it, double tap on that button, and it's gone. In that dialogue you also have the ability to share your voice memo via email or sms. so if you're wondering what that share button is for, that's what that is. I hope this is helpful.
beer_drinker, thanks for your steps. I was able to mess around with the recorder for a little bit last night, but will play with it even more this weekend and see if things get a little easier. One thing you mentioned and that I've been curious about is the speaker button because I've seen it in other apps as well, I think. Any idea what that's for? Does that have something to do with voiceover at all or is that for something else? I hope you, and everybody else, enjoys their Fourth of July if you're in the USA. If you're not, too bad you don't get Thursday off work. hahahaha!
Okay here is how I work voice memos.
When you open the app you are in the recording screen. Across the bottom on the left you find the record button, in the middle the voice level meter, this does nothing for us, but for visual persons, it tells you the recording level, and on the right the button that displays your list of memos.
To start recording put a finger on the screen and touch the record button. As you talk you hear the countdown of how long your message is. If you want to see it, go up to the top right hand corner, and down a bit and you’ll find the button that tells you the recordings time.
To stop recording, touch the pause button. The pause button is the same button as the record button, it changes depending on if you are recording, or not.
When you stop recording, press the button on the right, and now you are in the list of your recordings. These will be listed by time and date.
In the voice memo screen you have, top left, speaker that activates the speaker on the phone or turns it off if you are listening through the earpiece. If you have a headset it doesn’t matter. On the right is the done button, or the button that returns you to the recording screen
You’ll find your recordings in the middle. At the bottom on the left is share, on the right is delete.
To use your recordings:
Find the one you want, touch it once and it is selected. Touch it again it plays. As it plays, touch it again to stop it.
Now that you have it selected, you can share it, or delete it. To share it press the share button. In that screen you have the option to email it, or message it. When you choose, you have to address it and send it.
To delete it press the delete button. It will be at a place that is asking you if you are sure, so you have to press the delete in the middle or on that question. If you wish to cancel, you’ll find that at the bottom left or right both.
To get the desired volume on anything on an iPhone, you touch something and as the phone talks you press the up or down button. Keep repeating this until you get the desired volume.
You had said you had a volume issue, so that’s how you adjust it.
I say press or touch things. What I mean by this is double tap. I keep one finger on my screen at all times, or use that finger to look for stuff. When I find what I want, I touch the screen with another finger to activate it. That is a double tap.
If I’ve missed anything, please ask, and I’ll tell you about it.
Anytime you wish to get back to your memos, just go to the app, and press the memo list button on the right bottom.
I don't talk about swiping, but the post before mine is good as well.
I more or less feel around, because the term swiping for a blind person, to me seems odd, so just keeping a finger on the screen and moving it around shows you things.
